News/Announcements

Waratah School of Music welcomes you to its premises in Katoomba. The school houses 4 studios all equipped with the latest model Kawai digital and acoustic pianos, a 24 track recording facility and

D-Drum kits. Lessons run individually and also in band format classes. (band classes require application so if you’re interested please check our notice board for details).

Summer Program 2012 was a great success this year. We all agreed that this years camp was by far the smoothest. The new renovations at the school enabled us to have the workshops in our new larger waiting area with extra room on the new back deck for lunch, juggling and costume making. The theme for the week was ‘Glam Rock’! What a ball we had rediscovering the tunes of David Bowie, T-Rex, Suzi Quatro and Bryan Ferry. Each band learnt two songs as well as composing their own song. A lyric writing workshop was presented by Rachael Brady and the main star guest, Randall Waller spent a whole day with the bands working on guitar parts, performance and sharing invaluable stories about touring the worlds biggest stages with Shania Twain. What an eye opener for all of us! Rachael Brady also a talented film maker put together a great documentary of the week which will screen at our next annual concert. The 2013 program will take place in January and numbers are strictly limited so put your name down early to reserve a place.

We are proud to announce that the WSM facility can be utilised as an AMEB examination venue and we look forward to welcoming AMEB examiners and students from all around the Greater Blue Mountains area to the school throughout the year to undertake their exams in a central and convenient location.

CONGRATULATIONS EXAM RESULTS 2011

In 2011 the following students completed AMEB examinations. Exams are great way to set yourself musical goals and have a reason to work hard practicing throughout the year. We encourage students to undertake exams however it’s not for everyone and some students can achieve similar goals without the pressure of an actual examination. If you think you’d like to do an exam ask your teacher. For those mentioned who took the plunge congratulations on a great achievement.
